The Book of Ballads

Originally published as a series of comic books, this is a collection of traditional English, Scots, and Irish ballads, as interpreted such premiere fantasy writers as Neil Gaiman, Jane Yolen, and Charles de Lint, and illustrated by the beautiful pre-Raphaelite-inspired black-and-white art of Charles Vess. Included are such classics as

Thomas the Rhymer,

Tam Lin

and

Alison Gross.

There`s a detailed discography at the end of the book by folk music journalist Ken Roseman, listing the bands who perform versions of these ballads, and on which albums they can be found.
